Laura Krimmel Memorial Fund

Laura: daughter of Christ, wife to Jon Krimmel, mommy of Lucy (8), Isla (7), and Rowan (2), daughter of Bob and Cindy, sister to Megan, Matt, and Kendra, friend to many, beautiful artist, compelling writer, inspiring warrior.

Laura was diagnosed with CML leukemia in March 2017.  This news came mid-adoption process. Laura and her husband, Jon, had Rowan placed in their home through the foster system just 6 months prior. Laura began chemotherapy in April, but doctors found that the treatments were making other areas of her health worse. After the passing of a few months, the only route left to take for the hope of healing was a complete bone marrow transplant. The family held a Bone Marrow Drive at Azusa Pacific University mid-November in hopes to find Laura a "match" - in hopes to find a single person that could save her life. Within the months of November 2017-January 2018, we witnessed four miracles:
1) Late November, doctors found a "match" for Laura.
2) Mid-December, Rowan was officially adopted into the Krimmel family.
3) One week later (just after Christmas), Laura went into City of Hope for her bone marrow transplant (a very complicated, painful, risky procedure).

And, after 111 days, endless prayers, incredible strength, and God's grace, Laura was released to go home from City of Hope. She was welcomed back home by her three kids with hugs, cries, and tears.

Within a month, Laura was having trouble breathing. Because her immune system was still weak from the transplant, doctors soon found that Laura contracted three different infections in her lung and bloodstream. Laura spent the last two months in City of Hope, bravely battling relentless infections. A couple weeks ago, doctors found the infections had spread to both lungs and her brain. Even when she was removed from life support (her breathing tubes), Laura remained a testimony of miracle-after-miracle from a hospital bed in ICU:
-- If only you knew how many times we heard doctors/nurses say, "There's no medical reason for her to be doing this well."
-- If only you could hear the urgent, expectant prayers of her little ones every night at bedtime.
-- If only you could see the steadfast faith that Jon and Laura passed onto their children. They are brave and beautiful - just like their Mommy.
-- If only you knew the joy Rowan has and the smile he wears now - for being a part of the Krimmel family, for being known and loved by Laura - compared to the shuffling homes he had before in the foster system.
-- If only you heard her husband's prayers at her hospital bedside. They were nothing but prayers of complete thanksgiving - for who Laura was, for the inspiration and joy and art that she shared, for the legacy she passes on through their children.
