Laskie Girl Scout StoryWalk Project Le Mars

My name is Kiera Laskie and I am a sophomore at Le Mars Community High School. I am striving to achieve my Girl Scout Gold Award by creating a StoryWalk® at Cleveland Park in Le Mars, Iowa.
StoryWalk® is an innovative and delightful way for children — and adults! — to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Laminated pages from a children’s book are put into displays, which are installed along an outdoor path. As you stroll down the trail, you’re directed to the next page in the story.
This project will stimulate people's imagination through stories, build reading skills with active learning and burn off energy while creating new adventures.
I am looking at 18 display stations along the walking path. The display stands are aluminum powder coated from BarkingDog Storyboard Solutions and cost $350/piece. Plus there will be a 5'x3.5'x4" cement slab for each station at a cost of $155/piece. The first two books with lamination will run about $50. The total cost for the project is estimated at $9,140.
I am working with the Le Mars Public Library, City of Le Mars, Le Mars Parks and Recreation and other local organizations.
My fundraising goal is July 31st with installation of the StoryWalk in September of 2021. If you do not wish to give online, an account has been set up at American Bank in Le Mars under Laskie StoryWalk. Thank you very much for your support of this project.
