Larry Rowbs Clothing Recycling Initiative

Our mission is to build a clothing recycling station in Uganda to help boost the economy, clean up the environment, and raise the quality of life in Africa and all around the world.

Welcome to the Larry Rowbs Foundation - An NGO that has been endorsed by the Christian Ministry Alliance [501][C][3] in Goodyear Arizona, with a mission to help clean up the textile industry and clean up the environment.

We are based in Uganda, where millions of tonnes of clothes and apparel are donated and 70% of it ending up in landfills or polluting the African environment.

Our project (executive summary) is a plan to implement sustainable solutions in the African fashion industry to redirect the flow of wasted textile materials from a direct path of social/environmental degradation into a circular economic and educational system.

This plan is to build a full-scale clothing recycling facility in Uganda to
  • Sort imported clothing
  • Recycle what isn't usable
  • Upcycle what can't be remade as clothing
Then, once the facility is fully operational and producing sufficiently, we'll establish an educational system to teach students about sustainable fashion, circular economies, and help them build their own sustainable fashion products.

Building the facility is expected to take roughly around 5-7 years, however - we need the funds to do so! Though we have big goals, but we have to start somewhere. We are at the Research & Development stage in which $300,000 is required for getting the right statistics, data, documents, other right to use patents. This will also help in opening a physical store to promote recycled products from recycled/sustainable sources and in return help fund our initiative. This would help us draw a good plan before putting bricks down for our main recycling factory

We have done samples with some of our 100% biodegradable recycled cottons to prove that this can be done and have done some photo shoot events in New York. Here are some of the pics: Drive link.

We intend to give our supporters rewards from our first recycled products like Shirts, recycled bags and also put the names of our great supporters on the wall of fame for their generosity.

We have a growing team of volunteers with the knowledge and drive to push our organization to the next level. Our founders are:
  • Rowaiye Olanrewaju - 10 years experience in the fashion industry, masters in international trade and bachelors in economics, fashion designer, and an entrepreneur.
  • Lin Sheppard - 53 years as a successful businessman who has run a number of businesses and who holds an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
