Our brother, Larry Rivera, was recently diagnosed with Glioblastoma Grade 4, an extremely
aggressive, terminal brain cancer. He struggles daily as he fights for his life. Larry and his wife,
Mimi, have two growing children; a very hard working, committed
22 year old daughter and a
loveable, affable 19 year old special needs son. The bond between Larry and his son is one of
the most beautiful
things that you will ever experience in this lifetime.
Their dedication
to each
other is legendary. Together this beautiful
family is learning to cope with this sudden and
immense tragedy that has been so unfairly thrust upon them.
You may know Larry and his family from the snack stands at both the Carman Avenue and
Hearth Lane ballfields. You may have worked with him in the NYPD or at JetBlue. No matter
where your path may have crossed with his, we are certain he left
an indelible mark on your
heart. For those who have not had the pleasure of making his acquaintance, all who have can
attest
to his strength and character. Larry is a loving family man and gregarious soul. He has a
huge heart and magnetic
smile. His word is his bond and he can always be counted on as a
husband, father, co-worker, friend and neighbor. Larry is a steadfast force in his community,
always giving of his time
to others. It is now to return the love.
We’re asking our neighborhood community, his former NYPD brotherhood, his JetBlue family
and friends and supporters of all kinds to share and spare whatever they can we can to help
provide for the Rivera family at this hour of dire need and for the difficult road ahead. Please
