In remembrance of Larry Durgin

Larry Durgin died unexpectedly on Sunday April 14th.

To those who knew him, Larry was a contagiously goofy, incredibly kind, fiercely loving, hardworking, joy-filled, father, husband, son, brother, friend, and mentor to many. Words cannot describe entirely the type of person that Larry was. Simply put: The world will miss Larry and the way he made everyone around him feel loved.

Larry leaves behind his wife Haley (my sister), and their two beloved children, Lillian (2) and Russell (1 month).

During this time, words often fail to do much of anything. This is a tragedy with no explanation. Say a prayer for comfort, tell those whom you love, that you love them, and if you so choose, you can donate to this fund to help Haley and her children as they take small steps forward in grief. Any donations received will help Haley with bills, food, daycare, nannies, a funeral service for Larry, and any surplus funds will go to a 529 plan for Lillian and Russell's education.

If you're looking for other ways to help I encourage you show up now, but more importantly show up in a few weeks, months, even years to remind Haley and these kids how much they are loved. Bring food by in July when they've run out. Tell a funny story about Larry so that his memory lives on. Send the kids a card on their birthday, show up to Lillian's first dance recital, wash the dishes, and give hugs freely. My sister is an amazingly strong woman, mother, teacher, and more, but it will take a village to love this family anywhere close to the way that Larry did. Haley's friends, family, and church (White Memorial Presbyterian) will work to coordinate care, and meals in the weeks and months moving forward.

A service of Witness to the Ressurection for Larry will be held on Tuesday, April 23rd at 4pm at White Memorial Presbyterian Church.
