Lara's Fight Against Cancer

Not very often do you find a person who truly has an astonishing soul- someone who always picks you up when you’re down, who will go the extra mile to make you feel loved. This is what our sister Lara is like. She’s always the ray of sunshine in the room and the person who brings you comfort.

Last week, Lara was diagnosed with stage 4 Colon Cancer which was completely shocking and heartbreaking to our family. However, us McDonald children are fighters and next week she starts her first round of Chemo treatment. We have met with some of the best GI doctors in Florida and we know we are in good hands.

I have started this Go Fund Me because we’ve had many amazing people reach out the past few weeks on ways they can help. Lara abruptly moved out of her apartment in Philly when she became ill and had to take a leave of absence from work. While her work has been incredibly in every way imaginable, we have to break a lease with her apartment complex so she can receive support at home during treatment. Money from this fund will go to housing expenses to break the lease, moving and storage costs until she is better to return. I’m sure we’ll encounter other challenges on the way and we want Lara to focus on her fight and not on financial stressors.

We couldn’t be more grateful for the community that has come together to support Lara. We know that this fight will be challenging but we couldn’t feel more blessed to have such amazing people in our lives. Please continue to keep Lara in your thoughts and prayers.
