After graduating from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Viviana and I have prayed for opportunities to use our gifts and abilities to collaborate with our local church body. After several years the Lord has answered our prayers. Over the past year we have started a local artist support group in Logan Square called Untitled Armitage Arts Group, involving our church and the local community. We have been able to curate art shows, connect creative thinkers and offer support for artists and their work. With the support of Armitage Baptist Church we have taken it a step further by collaborating on an artist residency program that corresponds to the churches global missions program .
Artist in Missions
This program seeks to take artist from our local body and send them on our missions teams with the express purpose to create a piece of art reflective of their experience in the ministry. The end result would be to build a permanent collection in the church, minister to our churches over seas, and support the local arts.
As the community of Logan Square changes around us, we are diligently seeking new ways to open up valuable conversations that connect people to the work that God is doing, and believe in the Arts as in important communicative tool in this regard. The pastoral staff and body recognize this need and have given their full support.
To kick start the program, pastor Jeremy Crowe has asked both Viviana and I to join him along with Nathan Payne as he travels to Mumbai, India for pastoral training and missionary work. Additionally, there will be a small group that we will be joining following this trip that is helping run a Children's conference in Hydrabad,India from June 1-16th. As pilots of the artist residence program, Viviana and I will be the first leg of this new initiative and we ask for your support. Together, we need to raise a total of $2,900. Expenses will be going toward travel, food, housing, and art supplies.
