Lanaia contracted Meningitis when she was a few days old and as a result was admitted in hospital for a month. She has suffered a degree of brain damage which caused numerous challenges. At 5 months old her eyes became damaged and over the years her sight has been deterioating. Lanaia is a very smart and assertive child but due to her challenges she is not able to read or write. Lanaia has been seeing Paediatric Neurologist, Opthalmologists as well as physio therapist since 8 months old. She is now 5Years old and there is no hope for her sight without Laser Eye Surgery and possibly follow up surgeries to assist in straightening of the eye as well as to assist in her vision. Lanaia is my only child and I believe that she deserves every possible opportunity that life has to offer. Unfortunately, I am unable to afford the Laser Surgery along with all the other medical expenses that comes with her illness. My fear is that if she is unable to perform a vital task such as reading and writing then what chance does she have at a normal life.
