Houses For Displaced Oromos

Tax deductible
In recent months, an estimated one million Oromos were evicted from their homes in eastern Ethiopia. For months, these displaced persons have eked out a miserable existence without shelter, inadequate food and water, and little or no emergency healthcare services.

Children and women make up a sizeable proportion of the displaced persons. The Ethiopian state has not even reconized the human tragedy that is unfolding withinin its borders. The international community has not responded, as it usually does, with emergency assistance to provide relief and avert further human suffering on a grand scale. Only the Oromia regional government is trying to do what it can with meager resources. In the meantime, a million compatriots continue to try to cling to life, forgotten by their government and the international community.

Moved by the harrowing images showing the dehumanizing condition in which our sisters, mothers and daughters currently live, a group of concerned Oromo women in the diaspora have taken the initiative to contribute their part to alleviate the suffering. We have established the Siiqqee International Oromo Women's Initiative with the aim of raising funds globally to resettle the displaced Oromos in a sustainable way.

Please donate whatever amount you can to the initiative. We assure you all that the money collected will be used to give the displaced people a permanent settlement.

Benifts go to the East African Medical Relief Foundation (EAMRF). The EAMRF, in collaboration with the International Oromo Health Professional Association (IOHPA), will obtain land from the Oromia Regioanl Government and build homes for the displaced persons.  Health professionals in Ethiopia will collaborate with EAMRF and IOHPA in building the homes and providing health care to the settlers.
