Lala's Lymphoma Fund

I am writing this in regards to a very dear friend, Lily Gomez and her family. Lily is a single mother of 3 kids, Ashley, Alexis "Lala" and Andrew. The family is part of the St. Johns Church community in Alvin. Lily's 19 year old daughter, Lala, has recently been diagnosed with Lymphoma cancer. Lala, started having a cough in February this year that would go and come at first but by June the cough stayed. The doctor she was seeing at that time, said it was allergies and gave her antibiotics for congestion and an allergy medication to help. By July, she wasn't able to keep food down because the coughing had gotten so severe that it would make her vomit everything. In July, she also had her first X-Rays done and was diagnosed with Pneumonia. In the X-Rays the doctors noticed some abnormalities with her heart and lungs. A CAT scan was done and revealed swollen lymph nodes and spots on her lungs. An appointment to the pulmonary specialist was made but before the appointment, her condition took a turn and worsened very quickly and Lala was taken to the emergency room. Lala was admitted into Clear Lake Regional in Webster, TX for additional testing after a test proved that she now had pneumonia in both lungs as well as fluid around her heart. On Wednesday, August 16th, Lala was diagnosed with Lymphoma cancer. Over this past weekend she has had a chest tube placed in her for her first round of chemotherapy that is set to begin on August 22nd. The fluid around her heart was drained on August 21st.

Lala had separate health insurance that ended in October of 2016. Lily's new insurance will go into effect in September 2017 which includes Lala. Lily Gomez works for Alvin ISD at Alvin Primary as a paraprofessional. Due to the severity and length of Lala's illness, the family has incurred quite a bit of medical expenses as you can imagine. Lily is currently in the application process of trying to get additional assistance through a program the hospital has for families of limited financial means and/or no insurance.
