Savannah’s Grandfather’s Cancer Treatment

Donation protected
A few weeks ago, Savannah’s 81-year-old grandfather, William Borja, began feeling pain in his lower abdomen.  He decided to go to his doctor to try to figure out what was causing the pain.  After several rounds of testing, it was determined that he has two malignant tumors (Metastatic Carcinoma) in his right Inguinal Lymph Node.

The doctors believe that the cancer spread to the lymph node from a Melanoma skin cancer, which was removed a few months ago.

After further testing this past week, it was determined that the cancer has not spread to any other organs or regions of his body.  This is great news in that he will be able to have a surgery to remove the tumors and be cancer-free.

He is now urgently going through more testing to see if he is healthy enough to endure the procedure - as of now, it is looking like he will be able to.

William lives in Cebu, Philippines with Lalai's sister, Wilmie, who has tirelessly been taking care of her father and accompanying him to all of his appointments.

Health insurance and the healthcare system in general in the Philippines is much less generous than that of the US (I have first hand experience with this as Savannah was born there).  William will likely be required to pay for his procedure upfront and maybe receive a small percentage of it back as a refund from his Veterans health insurance.

It is estimated that the cost of the surgery to remove the tumors and treatment he will receive thereafter will be well over 100,000 Philippine Pesos ($2,000 USD).

As of now, Lalai and I, and her other sisters, have been covering the cost of William's medical testing.  After finding out the cost of the procedure and further treatment, we are really not in the best financial position to cover this as well.

We are urgently asking you to help us cover a portion of the cost of the procedure and treatment.

Other than this new cancer diagnosis, William is in good health and mind.

Any donation of any amount will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.
