Lagarto's Memorial Vet Bill Fundraiser

Today we lost our buddy Lagarto. Lagarto was a feral cat who came to us with a head tilt that was a sign of a neurological condition. But with love and patience he became a loving, cuddly house cat, whose favorite thing to do was snuggle with his buddy Momo. The reason he was named Lagarto was because his head tilt and loud, croaky meow reminded us of the character "Lagarto Hombre" from The Goon comic books. So he became Lagarto Gato.
On Saturday, Lagarto suddenly took ill. He was vomiting, had diarrhea, had no balance, and was disoriented. We rushed him to the vet and discovered he had extremely high blood sugar. He was put on insulin and fluids and he started to improve.
But this morning, Lagarto had an apparent stroke. We rushed him to the vet and said goodbye. We weren't even sure he'd survive the drive. It was time for him to be at peace. Our regular vet was not available for another hour so we booked an emergency appointment at the closer clinic where we get our food.
The first vet bill came to over $600. The euthanasia and cremation cost over $400. This is obviously a lot of money to pull off credit cards right after the holidays.
So we're asking for help to pay off the bills, as a memorial to our funny little guy whose absolute strangeness made him especially lovable.

The leftover insulin and needles will be donated back to our vet clinic, to give to other people who have diabetic pets who can't afford the medication, and who don't have social networks to do funding campaigns like this. So your donation will also help other pets who, like Lagarto, have challenges, but deserve all the love we can give them.
