Sophia's Summer Ballet Intensive

My daughter, Sophia Jones, has been accepted to attend  a six-week ballet summer intensive program in Austin, TX with Ballet Austin!!!

For those of you who have never seen Sophia dance, I want you to know that she is a beautiful dancer. Strong. Expressive. Vibrant. She is also a dancer for whom dancing is an integral part of who she is as a person.

For those of you have never heard of summer ballet intensives...  they provide young dancers with an opportunity to study dance full-time (eight hours a day) thereby strengthening the skills they already have and expanding their repetoire by exploring styles of dance they have not yet had exposure to in their ballet training. Equally important for dancers, such as Sophia, who are hoping to have careers in dance, is that intensives offer them the opportunity to develop relationships with the teachers, dancers and staff of the ballet companies hosting the intensives. These releationships often lead to apprentice postions and even contracts with the ballet companies.  

It is a wonderful opportunity for her. It is also an expensive one. Here is the breakdown of the expenses: 

$2,580 Tuition  
$3,460 Housing
$1,005 Point shoes
$500 Plane ticket
$353 to replace the 10% Go Fund Me keeps

$7,898 Total

Sophia will be receiving a scholarship of $645 from Ballet Austin bringing the total to: 

$7,253

Of that amount, I can pay for $2000 of it myself. This leaves

$5,253 to raise through this Go Fund Me campaign.   

So, I am hoping that you will contribute to our go-fund-me campaign and make it possible for Sophia to spend her summer doing what she loves to do. Dance!
