Juan J. Martinez Jr. Memorial Fund

My name is Mary and I am creating this page in honor of my late brother Juan Jose Martinez Jr. (pictured on the left).  The same smile you see in the picture never left his face. No matter what he went through. Juan is 14 years my senior and so there are some things that I did not learn until his passing. Things that not only make me love him more, but make me proud to say I am his sister.

My mother was born and raised in Mexico. She came to the United States for a better life. I always took for granted that the reason she is a permanent resident and here legally, was by her own doing. It is not until now  during this horrible situation that I discovered it was my brother Juan, at the age of 22, who completed the necessary paperwork so my mom could stay in the United States.  And also, through his friends I learned that my brother Juan always looked out for us, me, my brother Gilbert, my brother Cesar, and my mom.  He would help my mom by watching me and Cesar while she worked. He was always there for her.

Now, our family is facing a terrible loss.  On Saturday, January 24, 2015, my brother suffered from an anyeursm that doctors say happened as a result of high blood pressure which was never treated.   This silent killer took his life on January 30, 2015.  He was 41. He was my mother's favorite. Though you are not supposed to have favorites, Juan rightfully deserves that spot.  He did a lot for this family. I love him dearly and it tears me up that I will have to wait to see him again, but we all know that he went straight to heaven. NO question about it.

We only imagine to give my brother the best.  He was prepared to provide that for himself through two life insurance policies. Unfortunately, these life insurance policies have his ex fiance as the sole beneficiary.  He split up with his ex fiance last year. They sold the house that they had bought together and he moved back home with me, my mom, my step dad and my brother Cesar. He had no intention of going back with this woman.  He was in the process of changing all necessary paperwork, such as change of address forms and bank account information.  The life insurance policies, however, were never changed.  Though, the ex fiance is the beneficiary, the true beneficiary should be my mother. My brother Juan would not have wanted my mom to worry about anything.  I hate to say that the ex fiance is not compelled to do the right thing, but as of now she has been uncooperative and does not want to sign necessary authorization to cover the burial costs.  Even after we let her know that she would just have to let the insurance cover the funeral costs and she could do whatever she wanted with the remainder of the substantial amount leftover, we heard nothing.

This Go Fund Me page is to honor what my brother would have wanted, and that is to make sure my mother does not have to worry.  And right now all my mother wants is to make sure that her son has the best that she can give.  Life is NOT about money. My mother could care less about money. We as a family could care less about the money.  All we want to do is to make sure that he has the best, because he deserves it. And so I, Mary Torres, am asking for your help. Any help would be appreciated.  If you are unable to donate, please send prayers to our family as we try to cope with the loss of our wonderful brother/son/uncle/friend Juan Jose Martinez Jr.

I love you Juan. I love you so much. We all miss you and we are still fighting for you.
