This is Jenna, a beautiful fun loving 9 year old that has Smith Magenis syndrome or SMS.
Smith-Magenis syndrome is a developmental disorder that affects many aspects of her life. It is a rare condition that affects an estimated 1 in 25,000 individuals and characteristics may include mild to moderate intellectual disability, delayed speech and language skills, distinctive facial features, and behavioral problems.
Disrupted sleep patterns are also characteristic of Smith-Magenis syndrome, typically beginning early in life. Those affected have trouble falling asleep and awaken frequently each night and may be very sleepy and irritable during the day.
While this sweet little girl can be laughing and playing and having a wonderful day most of the time, she frequently has days, fed by sleepless nights, with temper tantrums, aggression, anxiety, impulsiveness, and difficulty paying attention. Jenna’s not had a restful night's sleep in her 9 young years.
Jenna's family has looked into many options to keep her safe and comfortable at night and found The Safety Sleeper.
