Joy's Medical Fund

Joy is the sweetest, kindest person you could ever hope to meet.  She is a pediatric nurse for children with special needs, a mom to two awesome and active kids, a loving wife, the best sister, a model daughter and an amazing friend to many.  On June 28th, Joy passed out in her kitchen, then proceeded to lose consciousness over and over again.  By the time the ambulance came, she could barely even speak.  Joy was rushed to the hospital, and within 6 hours had passed out over 200 times.  Doctors struggled to figure out what was happening, and admitted her to the ICU. After a few days of not being able to figure out what was going on, with her episodes still continuing, the doctors at Morristown transferred Joy via ambulance to Columbia Presbyterian in NYC.  Doctors there have been working to determine the cause of her symptoms, and have had to perform numerous tests.  With Joy's symptoms being so extreme, many tests have to be completed-some that are not even covered by insurance. Doctors are pretty certain the cause of her symptoms is the regulation system in her body not working properly causing it to send wrong signals to other areas. Unfortunately this causes all areas of her body to respond inappropriately such as heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen to the brain, muscle movement, seizures, low sugar levels, malabsorption, adrenal issues etc. Joy's doctors now need to find out how to regulate the symptoms that drastically change one minute to the next so she can safely go home-which involves even more testing. There is no cure for this, but doctors hope to manage the symptoms to lessen the frequency. To make financial matters worse, Joy's insurance changed mid hospital stay, so any deductible she would have to meet reset.  Joy has been told that she will not be able to drive for at least 6 months, and the doctors are unsure when-or even if-she will be able to return back to work.  All of this is such an enormous burden on Joy, Chris and their kids.  I am hoping that by creating this account, and with the help of so many people who love Joy, we can help offset some of the financial mountain they are currently facing, so that Joy can just focus on getting better.  I know Joy and Chris would never ask for help, they are always focused on how they can help others.  With Joy still in the hospital, and still working on a diagnosis, treatment and new way of life when she finally receives one, we really appreciate all of the help and support and prayers for Joy and her family.
