Kym Panlilio's Road to Recovery

Donation protected

Thursday, May 4, 2017 at around 4:15pm marked as the most significant life event to our family and our eldest, 19-yr old son, KYM PANLILIO. Kym and his two other friends were involved in a very serious, traumatic car accident at NW Skyline Blvd and Ash Street here in Portland, OR.  It was a head-on collision between our son's car and a large delivery truck on a curvy road.

Our son was taken to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center via Life Flight on a very critical condition. He was put in a medically induced coma to decrease the swelling of his brain and was asleep for 12-days, spent over three weeks in the Neuro-Trauma ICU and still in Trauma Recovery Care Unit for almost 2-months now for continous treatment.

Kym underwent several surgeries due to the life-threathening injuries he sustained.  While in ICU, Kym had a series of blood transfusion, switched to different breathing machine and had tracheostomy tube put in at the front of his throat to assist on his breathing. He had suffered severe damages to his brain (traumatic brain injury), had multiple bone fractures on facial, sinus and jaws. He broke his left shoulder (clavicle/collarbone), had an open stomach surgery due to liver, kidney, spleen laceration, an acute respiratory failure and had multiple bone fractures on his ribs, a broken right femur bone, left and right patella (knee cap), fractured left and right leg and his ankle. (Wheew! This kid is broken head to foot!).  And no one can ever imagine the pain seeing your loved one at this very fearful situation he's gone through and still going through! We thank God he's alive! IT'S A MIRACLE THAT HE SURVIVED!

Our son is a strong, young dude.. we are positive and hopeful that he can and he will continue to fight for his second chance of life!  He is a good son, a loving brother to his two younger siblings and a good friend.  He was a student at PCC and worked part-time at Subway and have a dream of becoming an entreprenuer someday.

This is going to be a long journey to his full recovery.  We are so thankful for all the prayers and support our family, friends, co-workers have given us and even the ones who really don't know our son, THANK YOU!  That made us stronger each day!

In a few days, he is getting ready to get transitioned to a Skilled Nursing Facility for his continous care and treatment and to start getting him back on his feet.  And the next several months are going to be the most challenging situation for us, for him.. physically, emotionally and financially.   We can keep praying and sending support to show that we care.  And the last thing we don't want him to worry about are the financial burden on his (broken) shoulder! Accidents can happen anytime to anyone (it's not a choice) and this is one of the very frustrating circumstances that no one ever wants to experience!

If you can HELP and DONATE, PLEASE DO! Any amount of donation you share will go a long way.  And our family will be forever grateful for your generosity.

Your donation will help with all the medical bills that are not covered by the insurance, non-covered medical costs, prescription medication, medical supplies/equipments that he will need (wheelchair, walker, etc) and accessibility to our home would be helpful, caregiver, lost wages, (mom has been on unpaid leave since the first day of the accident and may continue to lose full-time income as she cares for him). daily living expenses while he recovers for at least the next six months.

Family and friends have continually asked "what can we do to help?.. Let us know how we can help?"  We are asking now for your generosity and help by contributing to this campaign: "KYM's Road to Recovery"... Journey to a Second Chance of Life!  Please share this campaign to your family and friends if you may.

Thank you for taking your time to read and feel free to ask about Kym's progress.
