Kyle STRONG: Help Kyle Tackle Cancer

Donation protected
On July 26th, my younger brother Kyle went to the hospital with persistent jaw pain. After taking a CT scan to search for a potential infection, the doctor delivered unexpected news, Kyle has a tumor in his jaw and brain. On August 6th, his oncologist officially diagnosed Kyle with Mesenchymal Chondrosarcoma, a rare cartilage cancer accounting for less than 1% of all sarcomas.

Kyle is 17 and a senior at Gatesville High School (GHS). He is not letting one thing get him down, and he looking forward to finishing his senior year remotely as he continues treatment! At GHS, Kyle has played on the football team as an offensive and defensive lineman. He also competed across Texas in his school's performance choir and has received regional and state recognition for his success. However, the thing Kyle loves most is engines and trucks, and he has competed with his school's automative technology team throughout high school. After Kyle graduates this coming year, he plans on continuing his education at Texas State Technical College to become a diesel mechanic.

Due to the rarity of this cancer, and the location of the tumor in his head, his treatment will be an extensive road. He is beginning his first round of chemotherapy in the coming weeks to try and reduce the size of his tumors before they are removed surgically. After his surgery, which is tentatively planned for the end of October, he will undergo continued chemotherapy and radiation. Doctors are suspecting his treatment will last anywhere from 8-12 months. He will be undergoing treatment at both Scott and White in Temple, TX and MD Anderson in Houston, TX.

Our mother is a single mom and a nurse at the VA. Her and Kyle's father will be taking care of him, taking him to and from treatments, and fully supporting him through this time. My mother is still working as a nurse, but she is fully prepared to take a leave of absence as his treatment progresses. If she takes a leave of absence, it would mean she and my brother will lose their current insurance coverage through her work and their means of financial stability. However, we are thankful that Kyle's father will be able to keep him on his insurance plan through his own employer, but with the loss of dual insurance coverage, the cost of care is going to increase.

This is going to be a long and costly road, but our family is ready to take this cancer on head first! We are so appreciative of all the wishes, prayers, and support that has already been provided by our friends and family. We are looking to raise funds to help cover the cost of Kyle's cancer treatment throughout the coming year. Any funds that are raised that exceed the cost of treatment will be put towards Kyle's education to be a diesel mechanic after graduation. Thank you in advance for your love and support during this time! #kylestrong
