Kwame Kissi Fire Relief Fund

Donation protected

On June 4th at 5:00 AM Kwame and his family woke to pounding on their front door and their building’s fire alarm. With their apartment engulfed in flames, they were forced to flee with only the clothes on their back. Thankfully, they all made it out safely, but the fire destroyed their Bronx apartment and all their personal belongings. Now we, the residents at Sessanta where Kwame works as a concierge, want nothing more than to help him -- along with his wife who works in home care for the elderly and his 21 yr old daughter and 19yr old son who are currently working their way through school - get back on their feet.

Kwame and his family immigrated to the US from Ghana back in 2003 on a visa lottery. When he arrived in the US, he started out working in a supermarket before eventually landing a position with a property management company and moving up the ranks from porter to his current position at the front desk where we the building residents have been blessed to get to know him for the past four years. He is known by many for his thoughtfulness, his smile, and his generous nature.

While he became a US citizen many years ago and has built a life in the US, he has made it his mission to take care of those in his old community in Africa. Having grown up walking to school barefoot in old clothing, he has spent the past 6-7 years coordinating donations of clothing, toys, shoes, and other household items from residents and others to send them to Ghana to a school for the blind, an orphanage, and local churches in his hometown.

While he would never ask for help himself, he has dedicated himself to helping others and we know he would be so grateful for your acts of kindness. While we can never completely undo the trauma and pain that has come from his family losing everything they owned, we can certainly help them start to rebuild.

Thank you in advance for your donation.
Anything and everything will help.
