Raising for Rio

Donation protected
An endless list of errors at birth in October 2012 caused our second child Rio to be unable to sit, crawl, walk or talk.
After twelve agonising months of knowing something was wrong, unanswered questions and being passed from pillar to post, we were finally told around his 1st birthday that he would never sit, crawl, walk or talk and that he would undoubtedly have a high dependency level of care required throughout his life.
The following year was a blur of appointments, hospitals, questions and grief. So twelve more months passed and he was, and still is, unable to sit, crawl or walk and can still only eat soft food due to swallowing issues.
He has however, learned the word 'yes' and has said 'mum' once or twice in his lifetime. He has also progressed from having hands firmly clenched in fists at all times, to reaching and grasping things and attempting to feed himself certain foods.
Rio is a very independent and strong willed boy who clearly wants to do more each day. His eyes light up a room and he has already, at the age of 2, melted so many hearts!
We were told the list of things he would not do but not a list of things he would. We were told he would spend his life in a wheelchair, not that he would be pushed to gain independence.
So ultimately, the differences in these achievements boil down to that age old factor.....money......
I have been taking Rio to a specialised school in Sheffield since October 2014, that specifically deals with disabilities such as his and the difference and changes in him from only an hour a week have been astounding.
Unfortunately, he cannot be funded by the LEA for this school and there are no alternative local schools that offer this type of education.
So we are raising money to help fund Rio to attend the school that can see his potential, push his boundaries and allow him to become as independent as possible to offer him a better quality of life, forever.
There will be numerous events occurring throughout the year but we are currently in training for a ManvsMountain challenge in September - running from sea level to the summit of Snowdon. Yes thats 20 miles up and back down Mount Snowdon.
