Kurt's Battle with ALL

This campaign is for Kurt Hellbusch, age 36, who has been battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) off and on since July 2014. Kurt and his wife, Kristina, live in Shelton, NE with their four children: Cory, age 5; Dylan, age 3; and twins Emma and Austin, who are five months old. 

Kurt had initially been diagnosed with ALL in July 2014. He has been on a three year maintenance program to keep the cancer at bay.

Unfortunately, Kurt relapsed in September 2016. This time, his doctors' wish for Kurt is to have a bone marrow transplant. Kurt was fortunate enough to find a donor (his sister); however, the rounds of treatements that Kurt has been receiving are not able to remove enough of the leukemia to perform the transplant.

In order to heal Kurt, his doctors have recommended that he participate in a CAR T-cell immunotherapy clinical trial. At this time, Kurt and his family are waiting to hear back from insurance to determine if they will work with him to cover this type of treatment. If Kurt qualifies for this clinical trial, he, Kristina, and possibly others will have to stay in Seattle, Washington for a period of two months, as other family will be able to come stay with them at times. 

After a successful completion of T-cell trial, Kurt will then need to complete the three month process of the stem cell transplant. During this three months' time, Kurt is required to live in Omaha and to have his wife or other caretakers with him at all times due to possible side effects.
