Megan has PSC, a rare liver disease. This liver disease attacks the bile ducts, closing them down and causing bile to back up and ultimately lead to cirrhosis. It has been progressing rapidly and a few procedures have not gone as planned which has left her with a bile drain. Her bile ducts are closing faster than her doctors can place stents. Megan's amazing doctors in SF all agreed she needed the left lobe of her liver removed due to significant damage to the left lobe. So on March 4th, they opened her up and removed the left lobe of her liver. Since then, Megan has continued to have at least one drain and unfortunately several complications. After the hepatectomy, the remaining right side of the liver began to shut down leaving Megan in End stage liver failure. Trips to SF became a weekly event and lab work up to 3 times a week. On April 22nd, Megan was added the transplant list. Her MELD score has increased rapidly but California is significantly impacted with patients eagerly awaiting organs. If the transplant doesn't come soon for Megan, her doctors have recommended that she be referred out of state where it is more likely for a transplant before her health deteriorates more. Megan is the weakest she's ever felt but is able to keep her head up and keep a positive attitude thanks to the support of her family, her two headstrong boys, friends and loved ones.
