Kaitlyn Crescenzo's Cancer Fund

On January 12, 2015, a CT scan revealed a large mass behind my sister's brainstem. Kaitlyn had been frequently losing her balance for the past 2 months, and during that time was diagnosed with Vertigo. Kaitlyn's condition worsened and after a weekend of persistent vomiting, she was admitted to Hahnemann University for testing.

After doctors found a rare, slow growing benign tumor in her brain, Kaitlyn was transferred to Capital Health Regional Medical Center. There she underwent an 8 hour procedure to remove the tumor. Kaitlyn has now been in the Neuro ICU for over a week, waiting to be placed in a rehab. Kaitlyn is currently uninsured due to The Affordable Care Act, as her previous policy was canceled December 31st and her new policy does not start until February. Due to the severity of her condition, Kaitlyn was told not to wait until February for her new policy to start. Beyond the costs of the surgery, Kaitlyn will now need occupational, physical and speech therapy. Aside from Kaitlyn's major medical bills, we are having a difficult time placing her in a rehab facility without insurance.

Kaitlyn has a long road to recovery; her doctors are projecting 6-9 months if all goes as planned. Anyone who knows Kaitlyn knows her perseverance as well as her positive attitude, and this experience has certainly not affected her strong will and spirit. She is currently staying strong and looking forward to planning her September 2015 wedding and getting back to her work as a behavioral analyst for children with special needs.

Kaitlyn and her fiancé are a young couple, still saving for the future, and brain surgery was definitely not something that they ever thought they would need to plan for. The cost of the surgery, time in the ICU, tests and rehab is still unknown, but some projections have been in the millions. They are now starting to worry how they will be able to afford all of her medical expenses and maintain their home in Philadelphia.

Anyone who knows Kaitlyn will tell you that she is one of the kindest, most giving people on earth. Please help Kaitlyn's recovery as much as you can, and you will be helping someone who has dedicated her life to helping others.
