Help Milo raise funds for life-saving, gender-affirming care:
"Gender dysphoria impacts every aspect of my life. As a person with diagnosed Borderline Personality Disorder and ADHD, emotional regulation is already difficult. The added stress of waking up every day and being forced to exist in a body that feels all wrong makes stability and peace nearly impossible. I have started grinding my teeth and have had to go to the dentist with tooth pain. I have stomach issues when I am stressed that have been flaring up. I have been having nightmares so bad that I wake up not feeling like I've slept at all. My inability to find any sense of inner peace or acceptance has put a strain on nearly all of my personal relationships. Simply put, this is not a mode of existence I, or anyone for that matter, can survive in for an extended period of time.  Therapy and medication can only do so much - that is where top surgery comes in. Being able to exist with a flat chest would assuage the worst parts of the gender dysphoria I experience, as well as being referred to by the correct name and pronouns."

I am a 29 year old non-binary queer person living in North Texas and my pronouns are they/them. I currently work part time at Starbucks.

I came out as a lesbian in my early twenties after a lifelong battle with internalized homophobia, and last year I finally accepted that I am also non-binary. Non-binary refers to a spectrum of gender identities that are not exclusively masculine or feminine‍—‌identities that exist outside the gender binary. The Gender Binary is defined as a system of gender classification in which all people are categorized as being either male or female.

This has been something that I have struggled to come to terms with my whole life, and it has been a huge relief to finally allow myself to be seen as I am. My first indication that I was non-binary was the gender dysphoria I experienced around my chest, and research combined with discussions with other trans and non-binary folks revealed that top surgery was the main way to assuage that dysphoria and even experience gender euphoria. Gender Dysphoria is the experience of discomfort, dissatisfaction, or distress over the wrongness or incongruity between a trans person’s internal and external reality, between their sex and gender, body and mind, presentation and inner sense of self. Gender Euphoria is the feeling a trans person gets when they are able to start presenting as the gender they identify as and people start treating them accordingly.

How Top Surgery Alleviates Gender Dysphoria In Trans and Nonbinary Individuals

It is not an exaggeration to say that gender affirming care such as top surgery is life-saving, medically necessary care - not elective or cosmetic. I know that for my health, I need this surgery, and to get this surgery, I have to ask for help. Thank you for the help you are giving me - it means more than you know.

I recently tested positive for the BRCA gene, which is the gene that predicts reproductive cancer. This means that insurance will cover a portion of a double mastectomy. Dr. Beth Anglin is a breast surgeon in Plano TX who I have met with and plan on getting the surgery from. The surgery, plus overnight stay at Medical City Plano, comes out to $3616.84 out of pocket. I have paid the first half ($1808) using money from this gofundme and a generous donation from my mom. Dr. Anglin’s office is charging me $500 and I am also asking for $500 to cover the two weeks of work I will have to miss as I recover.

Thank you for your support.
