My Contributions to our Community and with your Help My Journey to Residency.

Hi my name is Karla Trujillo. My parents brought me to the U.S from Mexico in 1990 when I was just 9 years old. Carlsbad California became my home, and I am grateful to the universe for delivering me to the northern part of San Diego. In 1996, when I was 15 years old, my mom filed a petition, with the U.S government, for her children to become permanent residents. I became an adult while waiting to be granted a permanent resident visa. My case lost its priority, and in all of these years my paperwork has been stuck in the U.S immigration system.

Now after waiting 22 years, my lawyer has informed me that the U.S government is ready to grant me permanent residence status!!! I am going to need your help in achieving the next step. The Lawyer’s fee to handle the case is $2,000, the Department of Homeland Security application filing fee is $2,225 and I need $200 for a physical exam required with the application. My goal is to raise $4,500 that I need by March 31st.

My whole life, I have waited for this moment.  My lawyer says that,  “It is not very often that a person, who was petitioned in the 90’s, walks into her office with such a clean record; no traffic violations, no parking tickets, no issues whatsoever”.  My mom always told me that it would be a great honor to become a permanent resident of the U.S; therefore, I choose to walk a path that uplifts and enriches my life, and the community I live in. I did not allow these years of uncertainty to discourage me, or throw my opportunity away.

Instead, I decided to invest my time with the community. I completed high school, attended community college attaining my Associate’s Degree, and became the lead photographer in a team I put together. My team donated time photographing the work of individuals, and organizations that were making strides to enrich and unify their communities. I curated two separate art exhibitions; Embracing Nuestras Raices and recently Frutos de America Morena. For the first time, through this most recent exhibition, Frutos de America Morena, the Latin American community of San Diego county was prominently featured on the walls of Solana Beach City Hall. This photographic art show is now on display, and for sale at La Colonia Community Center. Half of the proceeds benefit La Colonia de Eden Gardens Foundation.

Your support today will help me gain the status of permanent resident and help me to continue to contribute to our community. Your donation will open the doors that will allow me to see my sister, for the first time, in almost 30 years.

Please help me gain this permanent residence status that I have been eagerly and hopefully awaiting. My friend once told me, “Karla, there is nothing that the community won’t do for you. All you have to do is ask.” I am hoping that she is right because here I am asking.

I need help at this moment to start the process. I’ll take a dollar, I’ll take $5, $10, $50, $100, $500 $1000 all the way up to and including $2,500 -  Anything you contribute will help. I pledge that if the universe sees fit to grant me more than what I am asking I will put it towards the one thing that has always been my goal. My B.S degree in biological anthropology, or geology, or both because this is just the beginning.

I am an excellent investment in our community, and I promise I will exceed all of your expectations. I have already surpassed many goals as an, undocumented, gay, Latin American woman. Now, imagine all that I will be able to accomplish for our community once I have a legal status.  Thank you for reading and being a part of my journey.  Thank you for investing in me and in our future together.
10% of the proceeds will be donated to La Colonia de Eden Gardens Foundation.
