Help for the Lopez Family

Hello,

My name is Brian Lopez, and I am reaching out to ask for support for my mother and our family. My mother, Janeth Lopez, lost her home and possessions due to Hurricane Harvey’s floodwaters. She put her entire life into that home, sacrificing in every possibly way to provide her family shelter, and she now has nothing to show for it. This is my childhood home, but I currently live across the country in Florida. I flew to Houston over Labor Day weekend to help properly demo the home, but I had to return to Florida while there was much left to be done.


My mom lives in this house with my grandmother and they are at a loss for what to do. They require immediate help to restore their home to a livable condition. It is currently unsafe for human habitation. During the demolition process, we were fortunate to receive assistance from a church group. They assisted with removing all wet furniture, drywall, and carpets. But now my mom has a home that is destroyed and without furniture. My mom was forced to discard her bed due to the water’s contamination and has been sleeping on the floor for the past few days. Furthermore, my mom is self-employed and has not been able to work for the past 2 weeks due to the storm – her income supports necessities and cannot adequately support the home rebuild.
