The Birthday Project

Every day patients at WakeMed are moved from room to room seeing multiple doctors all while worried about their well-being.  The Birthday Project was created to supplement the family feel at WakeMed for these patients. We raise money and fund birthday's for the patients on 3 floors of the hospital; the Rehabilitation Center, Cardio, and floor 3B. We need your help in order to make sure these patients are happy while undergoing numerous operations. Many patients are alone on their birthday. I created this program over the summer because my grandmother had a stroke and I had to visit her in the hospital in order to translate Arabic to English for her and her doctor. While I was there, there was an elderly man who was celebrating his birthday which was done by the nurses telling him "It's your birthday". His room was left alone for him to have a lonely birthday. This is not the only instance of this happening. Our program has been created in order to make sure these people have a memorable birthday.
