Crusading for Kristin

Donation protected
Hello,

This page has been created on behalf of my dear friend, Kristin Haines. I know this looks like a lot to read but I implore you to please keep reading as she desperately needs our help!

Kristin has been one of my closest friends for almost ten years and throughout that time has been an amazing confidant, dog mama, comedian, and unbelievable friend. She has such a warm and selfless heart and would do anything to help others even as she struggles with her own challenges. She is pursuing a higher degree to become a teacher and has been working hard to get experience working as a substitute teacher in schools and in daycare. Maybe you’re a friend, family member, or someone who has been fortunate enough to meet Kristin over the last few years. Even if you are a complete stranger we are grateful that you are visiting our page.

The reason I have created this page is because Kristin has been struggling with an eating disorder for almost 17 years. That’s well over half of her lifetime. She needs your help to get the necessary treatment that will save her life. Due to this deadly & destructive disease, she has recently suffered from a heart attack as well as other heart conditions, osteoporosis, anemia, and chronic depression and anxiety. Anorexia nervosa is a fatal disease if left untreated. Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. As you can imagine, the cost of treatment is devastating, even with insurance. Kristin has been in treatment and due to insurance, has been forced to leave too early and before getting the full help and support she needed.

Kristin was just recently given a bed at Timberline Knolls in Illinois and has discovered she will need to pay her deductible, co-pays, a flight, and other out of pocket expenses totaling over $2,400 and that’s just by January 1st. If insurance refuses to pay for a full stay again, Kristin would be forced to leave the facility early or have to pay out of pocket expenses that will cost about $1,000 per day.

Unfortunately, the road to recovery and health doesn’t end once she leaves the treatment center. She will need intensive outpatient treatment which includes a day program, nutritionist appointments, therapy appointments, doctors’ appointments, and prescriptions. As you can imagine, insurance only proivdes partial, if any, coverage for these services -  no matter how dire the circumstances.  Kristin cannot work during this time and will have no income to support her out of pocket expenses or co-pays. She is already in debt from previous hospitalizations, emergency room visits, and treatment facilities. This is why she needs help and support to pay for these life saving treatments.

Kristin is no ordinary 20-something. She doesn’t own a car, she doesn’t shop for makeup or trendy clothes, she can’t go out to dinners or drinks with friends, or buy the latest and greatest Apple products. She just cannot afford to do those things that we don’t even think twice about at times. But the fact is that even if she had that money, she couldn’t spend it on fun things for herself, because she needs it for life-saving treatment. I want nothing more than to make sure she gets to spend the second half of her life free from this horrible disease. Recovery IS possible and I know this first hand. Kristin and I were in treatment together many years ago and she gave me a pin of an owl and told me that it would help me to get through hard times. I wore it on my name badge during treatment and have kept it with me ever since. I’ll never forget that gesture and am returning the lucky owl to her so she can heal and get through this hard time.

By joining together, we can help Kristin to cover her medical expenses and also give her a future that is bright, hopeful and HEALTHY. I know the holidays are here and this is a tough time for many people but I am begging you to do what you can. Any amount will help as Kristin works to save her life.

Thank you for taking the time to read this request. Even if all you can do is "share", it would mean the world to Kristin and I.

Sincerely,
Katie
