Koras life saving surgery

Hi, my name is Stephanie and I am an RVT who works in emergency and critical care. We had a very special case come to us the other day and I want to share her story.


 Meet Kora, she is a 1 year old black lab who presented to emergency for her spay incision opening up and her intestines being exposed. She arrived in critical condition, her owners mortified and panicked. Our ER team immediately got to work on stabilizing her. Once she was as stable as we could get her, we had to present the owners with an estimate to surgically fix this life threatening condition. Her estimate was more than her family could afford. We had to act fast as her options were surgery, surrendering her to a rescue group, or the worst case scenario euthanasia. As a veterinary professional in this position it was extremely difficult for us to think of euthanizing a young, healthy, beautiful dog when we knew she could make a full recovery and live a full life if she could receive the surgery. So we got right to work contacting rescue groups. Low and behold we got a response! Once her owners heard we found a rescue who would take Kora and financially support her, her owners made the difficult but selfless decision to surrender her to the rescue to save her life because they truly cared for her and loved her. Kora received the life saving surgery she needed, lost several inches of intestines, and has a long road of recovery but so far, she’s doing great! She’s well mannered and the sweetest girl!! After much deliberation the rescue has come to the decision that Kora would do best if she was returned to her family. This is where you come in… We are asking for your help to gather as much funds as we can to help with her medical expenses. Every dollar donated will go towards her surgical bill and if we receive anything greater than her bill it will be donated to group that offered to rescue her.
