Kohlbeck House Fire Fund

Donation protected
My name is Dena Mooney.  Rick Kohlbeck coached basketball at St. Anne's in Francis Creek, WI, with my dad Myron Mleziva back in the day.  I've known the Kohlbeck's since I was a little girl so for about 30 years already. My dad told me the news and I happened to see and talk to the family at Christmas Eve mass.  Here is their story:

On Decemeber 13th 2017, around 12:20 a.m. the Kohlbeck family had a house fire. Rick and Debbie Kohlbeck were sleeping at the time of the fire. Rick woke up and saw the fire and at the time he thought he could fight it because it was very small. He was fighting the fire for 10 minutes and went out at least once to get some air and came back in to fight it some more. After 10 minutes, he realized he was going to lose and got himself and his wife out as she was sleeping when this all happened. When they both got out, Rick started to suffer from smoke inhalation and got worse and worse as the minutes passed. He was transported to Green Bay, but no one wanted to ride with him because they were afraid he was going to die. In Green Bay, at St. Vincent's, he was intubated and then was transported to Columbia St. Mary's burn unit in Milwaukee because he was in bad shape. If he would not have been intubated in Green Bay he would have died, so he was very close to death. He was supposed to be flown to Columbia, but he couldn't because of the snow storm that hit that morning. He burned the inside of his nose, along with his throat and lungs. He was put in a medically induced coma to help ease the pain from all he suffered. Rick was in the burn unit for 4 days before he was sent home on Saturday, December 16th. The house is a complete and total loss and can't be repaired. Their daughter, Marissa, was at work at the time of the fire and was very shook up because she did not know what was going on with her parents. Rick also had some minor first degree burns and currently has a bad cough along with PTSD. The family has lost everything and would like help in any way possible. Even a little will go a long way as they start the long road to healing and recovering. As always, the family is thankful to God and grateful that everyone is alive and doing well! Thank you for your support of this family! The family loves you all so much and are grateful for God's blessings and all He has to offer. ~ Jeremiah 29:11
