Knockabout Coffee: Help us build our roastery!

Donation protected
We are a family- and veteran-owned Specialty coffee company based in upstate New York, in the final buildout stages of our first roastery and coffee education center.

Knockabout's mission is to provide surrounding communities–cafes, baristas, and coffee aficionados–with the educational support they need to bring their coffee game to the next level. Aside from roasting coffee we want to share our knowledge, and thereby create an open and accessible space for cafe-owners, baristas, and members of the public to work together in order to refine their craft through extraction/sensory, and espresso workshops.

Since opening our first Specialty cafe, Nomad C&C, in 2018, we have always been in pursuit of the very best coffee. We are constantly chasing higher quality beans, more interesting varieties and innovative coffee processing techniques to share with our guests.

On Scaling / Growth:

As baristas first and foremost, we are the end of the global coffee supply-chain: the end of the rainbow; and the last people separating you from your first cup of coffee in the morning. Working the bar, we represent the farmer and roaster in every drink we serve–but, as coffee-professionals, we are only responsible for the final steps of production.

The completion of our roasting facility is an investment not only in ourselves: its an investment in our industry, our community and the untapped potential therein to provide a truly immersive, educational coffee experience to professionals and consumers alike. Over the past year or so, we've personally invested all we can into the business–simultaneously running our flagship cafe–and it will take an additional $20,000-$30,000 in construction and equipment costs before we open our doors to the public. Our remaining expenses include (but are not limited to) electrical/plumbing installations, extraction equipment, and construction materials for the remainder of our interior.

Risks and challenges
This is our first roasting location, so the potential for additional costs to arise throughout the buildout process is not unlikely. We are working to secure grants, as well as VA financial assistance, that may be available to help offset the additional costs of completing our building.
