Deanna Miller Donation Fund

Nearly four years ago, Deanna was diagnosed with scleroderma, an incurable, autoimmune, connective tissue disease. The condition is rare, in that only about 300,000 Americans are afflicted, of which only about one-third experience the more challenging systemic form Deanna does. While there are many treatments available to alleviate the symptoms of scleroderma, researchers continue to seek both a cause and cure for the debilitating disease. With her husband Mike, a longstanding officer with the Cocoa Beach Police Dept. and 10 year old son Patrick by her side, Deanna remains determined and courageous in her battle.

Over the past several months, Deanna has been in/out of the hospital a number of times, undergone extensive testing, the implantation of a pacemaker and defibrillator and endured significant/serious complications of the progressive disorder. As a result, she is no longer able to work. While fortunate to have insurance, it certainly doesn't come close to covering everything; copays, deductibles, uncovered/out-of-network care, medications and medical equipment, travel/lodging and other expenses for specialty care only available far from home, in addition to lost personal/vacation time, maintenance of the home and necessary personal expenses...all of which add undue stress to an already undeniably challenging situation.

Many from out of town and unable to attend the wonderful fundraising events being organized by family friends Steve, Marianna and Melissa, have asked for this site to be established, so that they too could partake in supporting the family from afar. Being more than 1,000 miles away ourselves, my mother Joan, sister Nicole and I, along with other family, friends and co-workers often feel helpless and look for any way to lend a hand. Suffice it to say I was more than eager to oblige. Your donations will go towards unpaid medical and family household expenses. Please know kind thoughts and prayers are always equally welcome; just as the time/care invested in reading this.

It's uncomfortable to find yourself in a position to receive assistance from others, particularly when there are so many across the globe enduring struggles we know little to nothing about. In saying that, I know Deanna, Michael and Patrick are extremely humbled and grateful for the ongoing generosity and unconditional love/support exhibited by their community of family and friends in so many ways.
