Help Orphan Kittens Thrive in San Jose, CA

Each year, 10,000 kittens are born outside in Santa Clara County.
More than half end up at the San Jose Animal Shelter.
Many of these kittens are sick or injured and require immediate medical care.
Others are orphaned, and without their mothers, need 24/7 care to survive.
This presents a huge problem for shelter staff, who lack the resources and funding to provide the intensive care these kittens need.
Luckily, you can help!
Kittens First is a new nonprofit that is partnered directly with the city shelter to save those kittens. Kittens First was founded in 2019 by a shelter veterinarian, city employees, volunteers, and kitten advocates. Our mission is to prevent the euthanasia of homeless kittens through education. That's why we're empowering our community with innovative programs, online and in person classes.
We provide:
- The Foster Program for the shelter, which allows countless kittens who are at risk of euthanasia to grow up safe and healthy in good Samaritan's homes. Our staff provide free medical care, resources, and guidance to our fosters.
- The Kitten Nursery where kittens fresh off the street are nurtured by our team of passionate volunteers who are able to provide extra care the shelter staff is unable to afford. We stabilize them and provide medical care until foster or rescue can pick the kittens up.
- Free Classes for the community to help care for orphan kittens; We’re in the process of building an entire online database of kitten knowledge for public use to ensure all kittens can be properly cared for.
We believe that all kittens deserve a chance to live and that’s why we’re putting Kittens First. Your generous donation will buy much needed food, supplies, veterinary medicines, and other essentials that allow our program to run.
It costs just $50 to save one kitten.
We are aiming to save 1,000 kittens in 2020, and you could make that possible!
