Kim Boyd Gaudino Cancer Treatment

Donation protected
I started this for my mother Kimberly Boyd Gaudino. She is only 58! This is her third battle with cancer. My Mom, fought and beat breast cancer with a mastectomy and chemo in 1996 at the age of 37. My mother now has HPV related squamous cell cancer. The cancer came from a bad pap smear in her 20's. The treatment they use today is the same one they have used for 40 years, without any advancement. There isn't any funding for this type of cancer, very limited treatment options, and no charities. Last March she had a clean colonoscopy. Her GI doctor kept pushing it off saying it was hemorrhoids. She went for a second opinion and turned out to be a turmor the size of a egg. She was told that she had HPV related squamous cell cancer that had come from her cervical cancer many years earlier. The virus can lay dormant and return at any time or never again. (HPV) is associated with a proportion of head and neck cancers as well as cervical cancers. Some strains are more aggressive and have more recurrences. They immediately began Chemotherapy and Radiation. She fought to survive and though hospitalized whenever the pain became unbearable and she would develop a fever, she pushed on. Once completed we waited three weeks for it to be out of her system and they did another Pet Scan. This time the cancer was gone from the original location but had metastasized to her lung. They performed surgery and removed a portion of her lung and were able to remove it. December 19th, four weeks later, when they did the next Pet Scan, it had developed in her lymph node right on top of her heart and they could not operate on it. They began giving her the hardest chemo there is and it continually hospitalized her. They had to stop the chemo because it caused kidney damage and they hoped the kidneys would rebound to continue but they didn't.. That meant they had to stop the Chemo or it would completely destroy her kidneys. Now she is left with one potential trial study,in which the Doctors are is still waiting for approval. at MD Anderson Cancer Center. We have reached a point where the financial burden has surpassed our savings and her health insurance will not cover it outside of a trial. This is the last treatment possible and we are grateful to Dr. Eng for trying to get a trial put together. We are fighting the clock and need to start the treatment immediately. If she is not accepted or there is a delay in the trial she will have to pay for the same treatment out of pocket. But the expenses are taking its toll. We are having to fly back and forth from Houston Texas from Virginia for treatment and testing. We have searched everywhere for a charity to help for flights and hotels but most are geared for children or Breast Cancer patients. Plus you have to have little to no income. I am asking if anyone out there will help donate to fund her treatment. If 50,000 people would just donate one dollar it would cover the costs. The treatment is expensive and without it, my Mom will die. She is only 58 years old. She has me and my sister and 5 grandchildren and a another on the way. She loves life, her chickens, peacocks and horse as well as planting in her garden and flowers. ¦My mom has so much to offer but because of insurance issues, and lack of research my Mom will not be able to share her life with us or our young children unless she gets this treatment. My mom is fighting for her life and the time is of the essence! This cancer is extremely aggressive and we have to contain it now!!! My mom isn't the type of person who wants to ask for help. She was embarrassed for me to do this! I have seen her struggle to find the funds to fly to MD Anderson the last trip. Please think about if this were your mother and there was a chance to save her but because of lack of funding, you would lose her. . Please spread this to everyone you know, including newspapers and the news. She needs this treatment desperately. God bless each and everyone of you and we covet your prayers.
