Kiln Support - GOAL REACHED!

I am a devoted artist mother whose work focuses on issues of cultural viability as it pertains to environmental sustainability, climate change and water rights.


Although I work in many mediums ever since I was a child I have always worked with clay.  Clay is a material that mixes the alchemy of earth, sky and water and as an indigenous female from the Shinnecock Nation of Long Island, New York I relate and connect to these similarities.


I have a hard time asking for help but a few people have encouraged me to try and so I am asking for help to raise money for funds to purchase a new or "newer" used kiln. For the past five years I have been managing and fixing what I can with an older model kiln that I purchased second hand from a local school I used to teach with. They were then able to use that money for a newer kiln.  It is just not safe to "hotwire" and fix the older one in order to get by anymore.  I've fired in many kilns and pits however the particular kiln I need allows me to complete specific functional works that are a large part of my current income. (The image above was taken in New Zealand during an Indigenous Artist Exchange where we did a raku firing in a shopping cart kiln in 2014.) 



Initially I had hoped to make work to sell this summer to get me to the next indigenous cultural artist exchange in the Pacific Northwest being held next month (the end of August 2017), however my kiln recently broke off that "last leg".  It no longer functions and I am currently unable to fire works in my studio. This is my income base and any help to purchase a kiln would benefit my future works and cultural exchanges. 


So in a way the kiln is more than just a kiln and always has been a part of something greater. It's a tool that I would be blessed to continue to have as a part of my practice, extended community endeavors and teaching.  And, I thank you in advance for your time and consideration in a "share", "Like", or any monetary contribution towards purchasing one that will work.
