Killaloe Sailing Club 'Development Fund'

Donation protected
Our vision is to build a Clubhouse at Killaloe Sailing Club, through a variety of fundraising initiatives. Established in 1973, we are a community-orientated, not-for-profit, Irish Sailing accredited amateur small boat sailing club, situated in a very beautiful setting on Lough Derg, Co. Clare.

We provide family-friendly sailing facilities, including leisure sailing, racing, adult and junior coaching, and junior and adult summer camps. Like many clubs across the country, Killaloe Sailing Club is run by volunteers.

Today, membership stands at approximately 300, half being junior members. Membership fees are very modest, and set at a level to make the sport affordable for members, with the overall ambition being to make sailing as accessible as possible, adhering tightly to our Social Inclusion Policy.

Our current facilities are totally unsuitable for a club of our size.  Although we own our site, we have a rather old and dilapidated porta-cabin, providing members with small male and female changing rooms and a single shared toilet. Currently, there is no electricity supply to the site.

Planning permission to build a new Clubhouse has been granted, with the plan including changing rooms with toilets and showers, a common room and small kitchen, raised walkways, a covered training area, facilities for the disabled, an enlarged boat shed, a new cark park and an enlarged dinghy park.

In addition to the development, club plans for the coming years include continued extension of links with the local community through arrangements with the Scouts, Cubs, local language and state schools; hosting regional and even national events, and expanding the number of ISA accredited sailing courses we offer, thereby ensuring the continued pipeline of new sailors to the sport.

To kick-start Phase 1 and supplement the funding we have received to date, we are kindly asking for your help to raise €10,000 to support the fund-raising costs of this initiative, which will benefit all communities around Lough Derg, including those in East Clare, North Tipperary, Limerick and even Galway.

Sailing is one sport that encompasses all ages from the very small to the older generations. Ours is a vibrant club that is well supported by the local community. Our facilities are no longer fit for purpose and are stifling further growth.

Please donate what you can. We would also kindly ask you to pass this onto anyone you know who is, or has been, involved with Killaloe Sailing Club, whether they live in Ireland or abroad for their support also.

Thank you for your support.
