I am a mom of four wonderful children with an age range from 8-17. Over the last year, I have watched each of them struggle in one way, or another. The fear, the inconsistencies, the sadness, the anger... these and so many other emotions continue to invade our home, like so many others, struggling for a sense of normalcy. "A New Normal"! None of what we are currently living through is any kind of normal.
Many days and nights, I wondered, how will this pandemic affect our children?
Post after post, I read how other parents were struggling, watching their little ones find their New Normal. The sadness and defeat in their voices broke my heart, because I could relate! No parent can tolerate to see their child suffering.
A Hero is defined as a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.
Day after day, I saw my kids, their classmates and friends (remotely) finding reasons to smile. Finding a different closeness with their families, friends and communities. Mostly, I saw Heroes! No other children in history have been through what our children have had to endure. Their courage to: walk onto that bus and into that school knowing their is something that may hurt them or their loved ones. Waking up every morning, checking into their online classes with technical difficulties. Battling the dreaded masks, no matter the age! The lack of social interaction that we have come to depend on...hugs!
