Kids with special needs in Dar es Salaam!

Did you know that almost 4.2 million Tanzanians live with a disability and are among the poorest and most marginalized groups in today's society...

Neither did I, but I have had the opportunity to spend the last two weeks with the most wonderful kids in a special needs center in Tanzania Dar es Salaam. The Centre contains 46 kids with different needs, such as autism, down syndrome, mobility disabilities, mental disabilities and many more. A disability in Tanzania is often frowned upon and deemed "a punishment from God." The center is where the kids can come and have the opportunity to learn and be cared for, as the kids are often neglected at home. Therefore the center relies on donations and volunteers to help as much as possible but lacks resources and funds to help further the children's education and basic needs.

Although I have only been there for two weeks, I can tell you that the kids are the sweetest, most loving and most caring human beings you'll ever meet. I have grown to love them in such a short period that I feel it is my responsibility to try to find ways to give back to them as much as possible. On that account, I am trying to raise funds for the children and the center, and I hope you guys would like to help for all the above reasons.

Helping even a tiny amount would allow the center to buy pens, paper, books and hygiene products for the kids.
