Kids Black History TV Show Curriculum

Donation protected

Hi everyone, I am Keighley Douglas the creator of Kids Black History TV show. I am also a Head of Year and secondary school teacher in the UK. During the first UK lockdown in May 2020 whilst homeschooling my 5 year old and after the devastating killing of George Floyd, it became apparent to me just what impact our current school curriculum is having on children across the world. Through teaching for 10 years I am even more aware of the lack of diversity in the curriculum and the lack of representation for children like my daughter within education and the media. The black lives matter movement was going strong in May/June last year and I thought about what I could do to not only impact the life and education of my daughter but the life and education of children all over the globe. Parents were desperately looking at new ways to homeschool their children yet keep them entertained at the same time. This is how I came up with Kids Black History TV show.

Kids Black History is a live action, scripted, factual, historical, entertainment show for kids which teaches black history to children in a fun, exciting, engaging way. It is imperative that all young children learn about positive black history that is currently underrepresented across the world. The platform I have created is really important as it fills the gap for children on Black History as it is not currently available in media or our schools. This is also content that is available on a weekly basis as opposed to being a Black History Month only focus. What is especially unique about Kids Black History is that it focuses on a curriculum targeted at a preschool audience of ages 0 - 7. Typically black history for this age group is either not available or targeted as age inappropriate with context that can be harsh and damaging for children of a delicate young age.

Kids Black History teaches age appropriate positive black history, most of which is unknown common facts to majority of our audience.

Although our TV show is called Kids Black History, we focus on the whole curriculum. We have a huge focus on the continent of Africa (present day and ancient Africa) yet we delve into such a range of subjects such as: languages, art, history, geography, sports, science, mathematics, literature, music, geology, and lots more!

Our presenter is 5 year old Raiyah who charms with her personality, talent, excitability and charisma in front of the camera. The show is unique in its genre as it is the only show out there that teaches this content in this style to children with a presenter who is relatable to the audience. Since our launch the feedback has been overwhelming from children, parents and teachers alike.

Since 17th June 2020 we have released an episode from our curriculum every week. We now have over 45 episodes and have well over 1 million views across the channel plus over 11k subscribers in just 10 months and growing daily.

The potential of KidsBlackHistory is endless and is already a stand out show in it's own right. However we want to get Kids Black History onto a major network so it is not only a digital global TV show but a national TV show too! We will also be bringing out a huge range of resources for parents and schools globally that will work alongside our TV series. This is incredibly exciting for us and we would love your support in helping us to change the future of our children's education for a more diverse, exciting learning environment.

We are looking to be able to hire a team to enable us to:

  • increase production on the series with script writers, videographers (for multiple angle shots), editors, illustrators and animators
  • illustrators for design on our resource packs, curriculum writers

Please help Kids Black History change the future of education across the globe!

Kids Black History is already having a huge impact and I am pleased to say that many parents are co-watching with their children. We are also aware that teachers use our content as teaching resources in the classroom. We can fit across multiple genres including, education, entertainment, comedy, history and factual. I can guarantee that there is no other show like KidsBlackHistory of this nature with the relatability, realness, knowledge and fun that our pre-school series brings.

The resources will be the best you've ever seen and we can't wait to make a bigger impact in the lives of children across the world.
