Kidney Transplant for Mahala

Donation protected
Mahala was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease at 24, and now that she has been kicking its butt for over almost a decade, this wonderful human gets a well-deserved new kidney in one short month! A close friend, Kyle Smedley, offered to donate to her and he turned out to be a match. While this couldn't be better news and couldn't have come at a better time (because CKD is currently kicking her in the butt), the sudden and substantial cost of affording travel and accommodation for two + months worth of recovery is overwhelming. After receiving the kidney, she has to stay near to St. Paul's hospital to make sure she doesn't reject the kidney or experience infection. She will be required to fly herself and loved ones down to Vancouver, afford cost of living and rent in Vancouver as well as maintaining rent and bill costs at her home in Prince George. Financial support would afford the ability for her to be surrounded by all of her loved ones. We would also like to help cover costs for her donor as much as we can. We have decided to reach out to friends, family, and even generous acquaintances or strangers in the hopes that some of you may be able to help Mahala with whatever you can so she can focus on staying positive throughout her recovery and not having to worry about finances. No amount is too small-thank you so much for showing Mahala your love and for keeping her in your thoughts!!

**My name is sophie; I’m mahalas partner, living with her in Prince George
and I’m raising funds on her behalf. The money will be transferred directly from me to her and then to her donor as any costs are incurred, such as travel for themselves, friends and family, accommodation costs for themselves and family, cab rides between the hospital and the kidney suite while they heal, groceries and other living costs while in Vancouver, and rent and bill payments at home while not working. The funds raised will also help to cover future prescription costs, professional cleaning of her residence due to low immunity with the new kidney, and emergency flights back to Vancouver in the event of any complications with the new kidney such as infection or rejection. Costs associated with future unexpected medical complications for her donor because of living with one kidney will also be covered.
