Kidney Transplant for Antonio

Purpose: To raise money for a kidney transplant for Antonio, our husband, son, nephew, cousin, and friend.
Diagnosis: In May 2016, a few short months after getting married to his high school sweetheart, Antonio was diagnosed with iGa Nephropathy, a chronic kidney disease (CKD). Currently, Antonio is in Stage 5 of this CKD, which is the end stage of renal failure. Since there is no cure for kidney disease, he only has two options: 1. Lifetime dialysis or 2. Receive a kidney transplant. Antonio’s ultimate goal is to have a better quality of life by receiving a kidney transplant from a live donor.
Transplant: The estimated cost for a transplant is up to $300,000. Antonio’s insurance covers a large portion of his pre and post-operative procedures; however, he is to pay the remainder of $5,000, for the transplant itself. Furthermore, Antonio will need several months to fully recover, meaning there will be lost wages. In addition, Antonio will need to be on several medications that are crucial to his health and survival. He must take anti-infection and most importantly, anti-rejection medications for the rest of his life or the life of his new kidney. These medications can range from $75-$150, out of pocket, per month.
Goal: Although we are thankful that there are options with this disease, we are hoping for the latter, and that Antonio may live a dialysis-free life and undergo a live donor kidney transplant. Treatment with a transplant tends to offer a better quality of life versus long term (lifetime) treatment with dialysis.
How you can help: Those who know Antonio, know that he has always been a fighter. All his life, he proved to everyone that he was capable of achieving his goals on his own. Unfortunately, Antonio is unable to fight this disease alone and is now in need of our help. We are kindly asking for any financial assistance that may help alleviate future expenses that are expected with this disease and treatment. If you are unable to donate, we could use the love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. With all of that said, Antonio’s gloves are on. He will never back down!
