Kickin’ it with Kaden

On January 13, 2013, I adopted my dream dog; better know as, Kaden, Mr. face, Kaden-Waden, Kadies and Homeless Dog. Anyone who knows me, knows that Kaden isn’t too far behind my steps. Whether we are making a day trip to the beach, adventures in the woods, or listening to chance on our morning walks-he has been the most consistent thing that I’ve had the pleasure of experienceing in this life. Nothing makes me happier than waking up in the morning to a wagging tail that just can’t wait to get outside. Just as I love him, I know my friends and family care if not just as much as I do.
National puppy day was this past week and I purchased an octopus toy for him. I’ve done it a 1000 times, I get the toy, he chews the toy, I clean the toy up, happy pup. This toy was the beginning of what seemed like a never ending nightmare. He had swallowed one of the toy’s arms, again not alarming as he has done this before. Unfortunately, this toy would be the one that almost took him out. On day 3 he threw the toy up. All things seemed fine until he stopped eating and drinking completely. I took him to the ER on Friday night, he received fluids and antibiotics. Less than 12 hours later we had to go back again and get more fluids, because his condition was worsening. Something was majorly wrong. I was confused though, because he threw the toy up, and at times he was acting better. I managed to wait til Monday for his regular vet to do x rays and run more tests, everything seemed normal, aside from not eating or drinking for almost 7 days. The x-ray showed something, but they couldn’t make it out. So he got more fluids and we went home. Tuesday he seemed fine, until around 5:30 pm, Lena walked in and noticed him drooling and foaming at the mouth excessively. The vet had been suggesting surgery all along, but it was so expensive. We were hoping that he’d pull through this with the help of medication. However, at this point it was a do or die moment.
Could I live without him? I really thought about it and I couldn’t. Doctors performed emergency surgery, and found a squeaker from the toy I had purchased. It was blocking his intestines, and unless the surgery was done right then and there it Kaden would’ve died from sepsis.
I’m sharing this with you because I could use help paying for his surgery bill. I would really appreciate if you could donate however much you can. Every little bit helps! Thank you so much!
