Kick Barb's Cancer

As some of you may know, my mom has been battling cancer since October 2013 with an Ocular Melanoma diagnosis, commonly known as skin cancer, in the eye. In December 2013 she successfully underwent brachytherapy treatment. During the treatment a small sample was sent away for testing which determined she had an aggressive form of the cancer. From there, she received regular injections into her eye of an anti-cancer drug and 4 additional laser radiation treatments, all of which successfully treated the melanoma in her eye. As part of mom's follow-up care she underwent numerous doctors visits, ultrasounds, CT scans, MRIs and blood work to ensure the cancer had not returned. As of January 2016 mom was cancer free.
In July 2016, we received news that the melanoma had metastasized to her liver, and a few short weeks later she was started on immunotherapy. The treatments have resulted in additional health problems including loss of thyroid and pituitary functioning, significant fatigue and the inability to remain focused on and complete daily tasks. As well, in the last 6-8 months she has dealt with further vision loss in her eye and the development of a cataract which required surgery to repair. It is estimated that within months, she will have complete vision loss in the affected eye
To date, the immunotherapy treatment she is receiving has resulted in no significant progress. Recently she was approached by her doctors about a new treatment that could possibly yield greater results, but it is located in Toronto. While treatment itself will be covered, all travel and living expenses must be funded out of pocket. It is estimated that treatment could last upward of a year, and will require multiple treatments per week.
We are asking for your financial support to get my mom to Toronto for treatment so she can "kick cancers butt". Any donation amount will be greatly appreciated.
We thank you for taking the time to hear our story, and for donating to our family. We kindly ask you to pass the word on to help us reach or goal.
