Kiaʻi Medicsʻ Home Burglarized While On The Mauna

Donation protected

Samantha Pomaika’i Freed and Valentine Santarone are our beloved Kia’i that have been protecting the protectors on Mauna Kea since the stand began in July 2019. They are both Kanaka practitioners and serve as Alaka’i for the Mauna Medic Healers Hui.

On Lā 200 (Day 200) of being on the Mauna, Pomaika’i and Valentine received an early morning phone call from a good samaritan who noticed that the doors were wide open and debris everywhere at their home in Hawaiian Beaches. Pomaikaʻi and Valentine borrowed a car and rushed down the Mauna to find a completely trashed and vandalized house.

Everything was GONE,  two cars, brand new washer/dryer, beds, TV, electronics, and all of Valentineʻs power tools that he used to help build homes. Pomaikaʻi and Valentine were not able to even start the recovery/clean up process due to the brooms and cleaning supplies having been stolen. They were dumbfounded that the toilet paper, dish soap, condiments and even the bed sheets were missing!

They left their home, a place they once called their Kipuka (oasis) with only the supplies needed to be present on the Mauna and the clothes on their backs and returned to a house of disprepair and rubbish. They have estimated to have lost a value of over $4000 in possessions that they have worked hard to  accumulate over the years, including many cherished and sentimental items.  The individuals responsible were able compromise Valentineʻs bank account, and proceeded to empty it completely. The account is now frozen until the fraud is proven, which will take several weeks and has left them with no options to move forward. The house is not habitable or safe for them any longer.  They will need our help to start over and get back on their feet.

We are raising this money with the intention of turning this into a silver lining for them both. Hopefully we can help not only replace what was stolen, but be able to provide them with the means to thrive, not just survive.

By meeting this goal, they will be able to utilize the funds to procure:

⁃Basic necessities such as food, temporary room and board, clothes, and toiletries.
-Reliable and safe transportation
-Replacement tools and electronics
-A secure long term kipuka home environment

We can work together to help this dedicated aloha ʻaina power couple,  Pomaika’i and Valentine, to rise and flourish so they can continue to stand for our Mauna and our lahui.

We mahalo you for your kindness and support. Please feel free to share this campaign and together we can show Pomaikaʻi and Valentine that they do not have to carry this burden alone. We are all in this together. Ku Kiaʻi Mauna! Until the last aloha ʻaina, we rise.
