Ms. Hooker Goes to Colombia
Donation protected
In just a few weeks (January 1st), I will be headed to Colombia with WorldTeach, a yearlong volunteer teaching program that helps students in developing countries learn English. Almost 40% of Colombians live in poverty, and many Colombian schools lack adequate funds and resources for teaching foreign languages. Colombians see education as a way of fighting poverty, and they find English to be an essential, exciting skill. The WorldTeach program is designed not only to give students the chance to learn English from a native speaker, but also to broaden cultural understanding and empower impoverished students through language.
Program expenses include:
-Flights to Miami and Colombia
-Health insurance for the year
-Food and living expenses with my host family
-TEFL (Teaching of English as a Foreign Language) Certificate
I am so excited to embark on this journey and realize a dream I have had for so long. I know that the holiday season is upon us and our checkbooks are spoken for in a variety of other ways, however any amount you can donate would be greatly appreciated. It has been amazing to have such great support from a network of family, friends and friends of friends. Thank you so much for helping guide me into a successful trip.
Happy Holidays!
