Khazana Means "Treasure"

Donation protected
Khazana, which translates to "treasure" in Pashto, Urdu, and Hindu, is a 100% woman-owned small business that delivers global impact with through discussions and unique investments from across the world.

Khazana has a unique delivery method through in-home presentations that are intimate opportunities to experience a bit of the culture of Asia, “meet” the artisans, and live a through someone else’s eyes on the ground. A “host” sponsors a discussion at their home; the host’s friends gather to enjoy tea and regional snacks and hear about the culture and individuals, and view hand-picked artwork provided by Khazana.

What is the “Treasure” of Khazana? The meaning is three-fold:

The Experience: Who are the people and culture from across the world? Khazana offers “customers” a window into the region and the amazing people who live there.

Global Citizenship: With each purchase, customers help rebuild a war-torn region’s economy and provide job skills to women.

A Valuable Investment for Your Family: Khazana's cornerstone is tribal carpets and other textiles that will last for 100-200 years, which will only grow in value over time.  Many pieces are museum quality and/or antique. Each individual purchase from Khazana provides the customer with the knowledge of the artwork, the "pedigree" of the work (name, age, design, authenticity, region, tribe and in many cases, a story of the person who created the work of art).

Additional Services Offered By Khazana:
1. Sales on Consignment: Have a handmade carpet that you've grown tired of (or don't have space anymore)? Khazana will sell it for you on consignment. Just bring it (or ship it) and we'll take care of the rest for you!
2. Changed Your Mind? Khazana will take back the carpet and sell it for you, no questions asked.
3. Assistance identifying and creating pedigree for your currently owned carpet.
4. Can't find what you want? Khazana has an established network in Asia to find the carpet of your dreams.

Christine Smith, owner of Khazana, is a regional expert on South Asia and has an MBA in International Business and Management with over 25 years experience in management consulting, financial and public management. Christine is a regular volunteer with Bankers Without Borders and micro loan institutions and has a long successful track record of assisting high-risk populations through innovative solutions. She fell in love with the people and the artwork while living overseas, and yearns to maximize the potential of helping people through love of culture and art, providing opportunities for people across the world reach across oceans and truly make a difference.

The South Asia and Asian regions have been through generations of conflict, war, terrorism and natural disasters, in many cases ripping the social fabric and economy dramatically and creating a consistent need for large amounts foreign assistance (that rarely makes it to the people in most need). While the security situation is still not conducive to large U.S. business integration, there are many opportunities to improve the economy through successful business models such as micro lending and small business enterprise, a “help me help myself” model. Khazana provides the opportunity for these individuals and small businesses to reach the global market and teach new skills to fragile sectors of the market who otherwise may not have opportunities to participate (women and displaced persons). Ms. Smith has spent time in the region and has developed a strong network of suppliers to ensure successful imports for years to come.
