Khaya’s 3rd Spinal Surgery Fund

Donation protected

Seven years ago on April 17,2013 my babygirl Khaya Solé Shenea Matthews was born. When she was two months old, I realized she had a spinal issue and had it checked out. I learned  that she was born with Kyphosis and Scoliosis also known as Kypho-Scoliosis.

”Kypho-Scoliosis is an abnormal curve of the spine on two planes: the coronal plane, or side to side, and the saggital plane, or back to front. It’s a combined spinal abnormality of two other conditions: kyphosis and scoliosis.

Scoliosis causes the spine to curve abnormally on the coronal plane, meaning it twists sideways. Kyphosis causes the spine to curve abnormally on the saggital plane, meaning it twists forward or backward, similar to a hunchback. People with kyphoscoliosis have a spine that curves both to the side and forward or backward at the same time.

This condition can occur at any age, including at birth. According to a case report about the condition, 80 percent of cases are idiopathic. This means there’s no known cause of the condition” (healthline.com).

Khaya has had Corrective Spinal Surgery at the age of 2 and again at the age of 3. Each time she had to be in the hospital for two months for recovery and rehabilitation. She is now 7 years old and on her way back to the operating table. I must be honest, I am just as terrified as the first two times. But I am being strong for my baby and trying to prepare her for her surgery. Iam also trying to prepare myself for the emotional, mental, physical and financial stress that will come with this surgery. I will have to take off work some days and struggle to get through school while supporting and helping to rehabilitate my baby so that I can bring her home safely. She is expected to spend 1 month at Dayton Children’s Hospital and then 1 month at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. I’m never one to have my hand stuck out for anything as I work a lot and very hard to keep my bills paid and children taken care of.

For the next two months paying bills and buying food and gas and other essential things will prove to be a tough task for me and I could REALLY use some help from family and friends. I had to really humble myself before starting this fundraiser because asking for help is not easy. However, at this time, it is absolutely necessary.

That being said, I hope that my family, friends and facebook friends are willing to do whatever they can to help us in these tough times.  Every dollar helps and will be greatly appreciated. For those who are able to help and for those who want to help but are unable, Thank you in advance. We loveyou.

Note: I will be sure to keep and provide a detailed list of what money is spent and what it is spent on which will include bills, food and gas forthe two months that we are in the hospital.
