I am Tony Small. I have four children and three grandchildren. I am a husband and a brother. I live for my family and the joy and love in my home.
I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in January of 2009 when I was hospitalized for two weeks due to a major attack. I recovered, gained my strength back, could return to work, and was even able to play soccer or cricket again. But I have suffered several relapses since.
Multiple Sclerosis is a disease that causes damage to the nervous system resulting in a range of symptoms including deficiency in sensation, movement, and cognition functions. There is no cure for MS, but there are treatments to help slow down the progression of the disease.
The symptoms that I experience now are muscle weakness, loss of sensation, and poor coordination. The work that I did was physical labor, which I can no longer do.
I have a very aggressive case of MS. Since my diagnosis, I have been on different treatments: holistic approaches and major diet changes, and several medications i.e. Beta Interferons, Copaxone Injections and most recently, Tecfidera.
Stem cell therapy has been reported to repair the damaged brain tissue by up to 80% in patients with MS and other neurological diseases. My physicians and treatment providers believe that I am an ideal candidate for this the procedure and we are feeling optimistic of the results should I undergo this therapy. The procedure is complete in three consecutive days. I live in Massachusetts and will travel to California for the therapy. It is estimated that it will cost up to $26,000.00 to complete this including the travel and lodging expenses and the cost of the therapy itself.
