Savannah’s Battle With Sarcoma

Donation protected
Let me start by telling you a little bit about my beautiful daughter Savannah, she is 16 and a junior at Mishawaka High School. She is on the Academic bowl, National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, National French Honor Society and a participant in the South Bend/Mishawaka Youth Leadership Program. She has an amazing smile that lights up a room, loves her niece and nephews, loves animals and hopes to be a Veterinarian one day. She has a big heart and never stops wanting to help others.

March 19th, a day we will never forget and wish with everything we have that we could change, a day that changed our life, a day that we got the news no parent or person wants to hear...”your daughter has a tumor”. This is very scary for all of us but is especially hard on my baby girl. She was diagnosed with an osteosarcoma in the pelvic region and our lives have been in turmoil since.

Unfortunately for us there is no one close for medical treatment so we have to drive to Indianapolis for treatment. She has already had all of her tests done CT scan, MRI, Xrays, PetScan, Biopsy and has had her first round of chemotherapy on April 10th and 11th. She got a port placed on the 9th so they don’t have to stick her each and every time she needs chemo or bloodwork done. We will have a home nurse at the house twice a week to do bloodwork and make sure she is doing ok. We have been non stop since that dreaded day in March with back and forth visits to Indy, hospital stays and tests.  The orthopedic oncologist will check her status again to see if they can do surgery at the end of June to safely remove the tumor and then they will
resume chemo after. She has a long painful journey ahead of her and needs all the support she can get even if she feels like she doesn’t.

Insurance for for the most part has been good but the copays, prescription medicine she has to take and all the travel back and forth is taking its toll.  We don’t really want to do this but when your child is sick you will do anything and everything you can. I haven’t been able to work a full week since we got the diagnosis and neither has Frank so we are asking for prayers and anything at all that you can do to help us get through this horrible situation.

We will be frequent guests for the remainder of this year at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent’s in Indianapolis. She has an amazing team of Doctors and nurses and we are praying for the best.

Cancer Sucks and it not only affects the person but it affects everything and everyone around. We have just started our journey and will continue to need support until the end. We are asking for help with travel expenses and copays or even just well wishes and support.
