Tom’s Team do the Great South 5k
Hi everyone,
As a family we would like to do a yearly fundraiser in Tom's memory for Sarcoma UK by taking part in the Great South 5K!
The treatment protocol for Ewing Sarcoma has remained largely unchanged in decades. Tom received some of these chemotherapy drugs, the newest being approved in 1987.
And whilst the treatment is brutal and highly toxic, it is still not sufficiently effective and survival rates for Ewing’s have seen no real improvement in nearly 40 years, hovering around just 60% for patients with localised disease.
But for those with the most aggressive form of the disease, 5 year survival rates plummet to just 1 in 5.
And with no standard treatment protocol available for relapsed patients, which is sadly all too common with Ewing’s, outcomes remain poor and this HAS to change.
